We know the internet can be a dangerous place, but how dangerous is it really? It can be pretty bad, if you not careful. Once you know the dangers, what can you do to protect yourself?

Our speaker Tom Eston will talk about all this, including:
    • Which browser to use or not use
    • Add-ons or other programs to have to protect yourself
    • Spam, phishing & pharming
    • And just what is rickrolling

tom-eston-130.jpgTom Eston is a penetration tester for a Fortune 500 financial services organization.  Tom currently serves as the security assessment team lead.  Tom began his career over thirteen years ago as a systems and network administrator for several large and medium size businesses. Tom is actively involved in the security community and focuses his research on the security of social media. He is a contributing author to a social media eBook and has written a Facebook Privacy & Security Guide which is used in several major universities as part of student security awareness programs. Tom is a security blogger and co-host of the Security Justice and Social Media Security podcasts.  Tom is also a frequent speaker at security user groups and conferences including Cleveland’s own Notacon and most recently Defcon 17 in Las Vegas.

You can read more about Tom and see an interview with him at the Great Lakes Geek. Tom also has a blog and a web site with many security tips and you can follow him on Twitter.

Come learn about the free, open-source JavaScript library which gives you access to stunning effects and capabilities, and gives you nearly complete control over your pages.

It is free, relentlessly cross-browser and cross platform, (relatively) easy to use, fast, lightweight, tremendously flexible, no-backend programming, and did I say free?

This presentation will be an introduction to basic concepts and a demonstration of what you can do with JQuery and the huge library of free plugins available.

Take a look at this page for some samples of JQuery in action: www.noupe.com/jquery/50-amazing-jquery-examples-part1.html
